Friends,

The inaugural Art For Afya by the Afya Kenya Foundation held on December 9th, 2009, was a resounding success with hundreds turning up to savour the poetic and musical delights of the evening.

The response from our supporters was overwhelming and the artists did not disappoint as Adelle and Mkamzee captivated the audience with their poetry, Pentharmony showed us just why they are so popular, Anniesoul moved our souls with her melodies, Murfy’s Flaw rocked our worlds and Joed had us riveted with a stirring monologue. Unfortunately, Dan Chizi was not able to perform as promised but he will definitely be there from beginning to end of the next event in January.

Our new Goodwill Ambassadors joining New York based Ajuma Nasenyana in fronting the Afya Kenya Foundation cause are Sauti Sol!

The multi-talented Sauti Sol is like nothing you have ever experienced before. The African acoustic band consists of 4 members; Bien-Aime Baraza, Willis Chimano, Delvin Mudigi and Polycarp Otieno who met in high school and originally started as an accapella group. When they finished their O-levels in the year 2005 they decided to take up music professionally.

The band is inspired by the choices, consequences and challenges that the Kenyan youth face and the need to revamp the music industry with a different unique sound that cuts across all age groups. Musically, they are inspired by Fadhili Williams, Daudi Kabaka and other established African artists such as Salif Keita and Lokua Kanza.

Currently the band are busy promoting the debut album “Mwanzo” produced by Wawesh under the Kenyan “Penya Africa” Label. The album is a fusion of African sound with and urban feel; most of the songs are extremely well received when performed live among Sauti’s continuously growing fan-base! The decision to appoint them as our Goodwill Ambassadors was an easy one as their beliefs are in line with ours…Too serve and to see all Kenyans lead a better life!

Look out for the next event as we move to a bigger and better venue to accomodate the huge numbers. Remember, its about making quality healthcare accessible to all!
