Deworming Expedition To Bondo, Nyanza.

Friends,

On Saturday, 5th November 2009, Afya Kenya Foundation held a de-worming exercise in Bondo, Bwaja village at St. Alice Angel’s Academy. Members of the Bwaja Community Self Help Group also took part in the activity as well as providing entertainment for the attendees.

The de-worming exercise was targeting the pupils of St. Alice Angel’s Academy as well as pupils from the surrounding schools who had been invited to take part in the exercise. The children were between the ages of 3 and 16 years.

The event started at 10 o’clock with a brief talk by Managing Trustee, Ms. Wambui Wanyoike, explaining to the parents the purpose of the de-worming exercise and the benefits. The Managing Trustee also educated the children and their parents on basic hygiene such as hand washing before eating and after using the toilet, proper use of the toilets to enhance sanitation and cleaning food before consumption. The crowd was also addressed by the Founder of the school as well as The Bwaja Community Self Help Group, Mr. Eli Omollo.

The de-worming exercise was successful as we managed to treat over 300 people, 200 of whom were children.

We look forward to returning to Bwaja village in the next 6 months to follow up the de-worming exercise and partnering again with the Bwaja Community Self Help Group to make quality healthcare accessible to the people of Bondo.

Regards,
Wambui Wanyoike
Managing Trustee,
Afya Kenya Foundation.
